This year, for the first time, the Compassion Soup Kitchen took part in Wellington’s Cuba Dupa festival—an annual local event that draws a vibrant crowd to Cuba Street in a festive and welcoming atmosphere. The public response to our presence was incredibly warm, and the sunny, pleasant weather made the day even more special.

During the festival, Compassion Soup Kitchen staff and volunteers had the opportunity to share their mahi with the wider community.  Freshly prepared empanadas were served at the stall and proved to be a crowd favourite, offering visitors a delicious taste from our kitchen while they learnt more about the work we do in the community.

The festival also brought together other aligned community organisations, including Everybody Eats, strengthening the shared sense of connection and collaboration. The atmosphere of the day was upbeat and energetic, making Compassion Soup Kitchen’s participation in Cuba Dupa truly memorable. Many visitors to our stall showed their support by making a donation, helping us continue our mission of supporting those in need.
