Tēnā koutou katoa,
During the restrictions of the pandemic, the generosity of Wellingtonians continued to be
overwhelming. The meal service continued. Take aways prepared by the staff team and
volunteers were offered to the guests. There was a connection as the takeaway packet wast
offered as the guests knew that people cared.
The dawning of the day, 26 April, to return to the dining room began with prayer. I
appreciated being with the guests, staff, and volunteers. Fabian led the prayer and a feeling
of belonging emerged as we stood in silence. The service of warm soup and buns was as it has
been for many years, and it felt as though the cloud of social isolation had lifted.
Thank you to all those who supported at a time when the work was tough and there was so
much uncertainty. What remained certain when anxiety increased about health and a place
to sleep, was a hot takeaway
