Do you want to help build a Compassionate Community for vulnerable and isolated people in Wellington?
Are you passionate about working with whānau to improve their health, wellbeing and sense of belonging?
The Soup Kitchen is a community based service for people who have experienced homelessness, issues with mental health, addiction and social isolation and exclusion. Our primary aim is to support people to live with dignity in the Wellington community.
We are looking for a new Senior Community Worker / Social Worker. Our core aim is to support people to live with dignity in the Wellington Community. We do this through providing a breakfast and dinner service 6 days per week, a programme of fun and enjoyable activities, practical and social support and in Tupaia, our community garden.
The role is for someone who is interested in working directly with whānau during our meal service, running and developing activities such as fishing and gardening, to support them while volunteering or working at the Soup Kitchen and to provide advocacy and practical support. This is a broad role which requires flexibility, adaptability and skills in building relationships and working with others.
This is an important role within the organisation that requires the ability to guide and mentor other staff, volunteers and whānau to achieve positive outcomes. A relevant qualification, such as in social work, counselling or mental health, would be highly beneficial. The ability to prioritise workload and to manage administration is essential. Experience developing activity programmes and advocating and supporting whānau to access support are key attributes that will be considered.
We welcome applications from people who have lived experience of any of the challenges that our whānau face. The majority of our whānau are Māori and we are particularly looking for people with knowledge of te Reo Māori me ngā Tikanga.
